Privacy Policy

1. Overview

ChelScan (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is an unofficial community scouting tool for World of Chel players. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using ChelScan you agree to this policy.

2. Information We Collect

  • Anonymous device identifier. When you first open the app, we generate a random ID and store it locally on your device so we can associate your scans and saved opponents with your device without requiring an account.
  • Uploaded lobby screenshots. Images you submit for scanning are processed to extract gamertags and club names.
  • OCR processing through Google Gemini. Screenshots are sent to Google’s Gemini model via a secure API to read text from the image. Google processes this data under its own terms.
  • Player and club lookups. We query EA’s public Pro Clubs endpoints using the gamertags and club names extracted from your scans.
  • Cached data. We temporarily cache player and club responses (up to 6 hours) to keep the app fast and reduce load on EA’s servers.
  • Analytics (future). We may add privacy-friendly analytics (such as Google Analytics or Firebase) to understand aggregate usage. If we do, this policy will be updated first.
  • Cookies and local storage. We use browser local storage to hold your device ID, session, and UI preferences. We do not use advertising cookies.

3. How We Use Information

To operate the scanning workflow, return scouting results, save opponents you bookmark, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.

4. Data Retention

Uploaded screenshots are used to extract text and are not retained longer than needed to produce your scouting result. Cached EA lookups expire automatically. Scan history tied to your anonymous device ID remains until you clear it from your device or contact us to remove it.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share information only with the processors required to run the service (Google Gemini for OCR, our hosting provider, and EA’s public endpoints for lookups).

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA/UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data, and to object to processing or request data portability. Because we identify you only by an anonymous device ID, please include that ID when making a request so we can locate your data.

7. California Rights (CCPA)

California residents may request to know what personal information we hold about them, request deletion, and opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

8. Children

ChelScan is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect data in transit and at rest, but no online service is 100% secure.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.

11. Governing Law & Contact
